Sedona Arts Center Exhibit

Visit the Sedona Arts Center during their exhibit “31 Women Artists”! Surrealism was the prevailing modern art movement in 1943 when Peggy Guggenheim launched a special exhibition entitled Exhibition by 31 Women. The exhibit took place at her “Art of This Century” gallery in NYC.
The Sedona Arts Center exhibition will include various works by six of the women artists who were featured in the original NYC exhibition from the collection of local art historian Mark Rownd. The Sedona Arts Center will be exhibiting works by Leonora Carrington, Dorothea Tanning, Leonor Fini, Hedda Sterne, Sonja Sekula, and Hazel Guggenheim.
Over 220 women artists applied for the exhibition from 38 states and 8 countries representing work that has in some way been influenced by the surrealist movement. Women are the unsung heroes of contemporary art. Creating artworks and actively participating in all aspects of modern art from early on.

Sedona Arts Center
Sedona Arts Center is one of Northern Arizona’s most well-established cultural organizations. The center serves as the creative heart of Sedona. Founded in 1958, the nonprofit organization is based in Uptown, Sedona. They offer year-round classes along with exhibitions, festivals, and cultural events.The Center’s Fine Art Gallery promotes the original works of over 100 local artists. They also offer special assistance for collectors and art buyers! Along with private studio visits, and fosters hundreds of arts education opportunities each year.
